Scottish Champs – Dunkeld – Jamie scott

Friday hit and it was once again time to race, we set off around two this time Dunkeld bound, sun beaming and tunes rolling it was looking like a good weekend.
Arrived at the track, got the tent set up swiftly and it was track walk time. The weather had been a treat the past two weeks in scotland and this weekend was to be no different! The track was looking fast, loose, and dusty! I think I speak for everyone when I say it was looking sweet.
With a wide open track there was a fair few lines to discuss but the conclusion that there was basically one good line was soon reached. Flies galore! swarms of them buzzing around you up in the top section which stuck to its true nature of looking sketchy.
Track walk done it was time for the pre-discussed swim! a quick leap of the 40ft high bridge into the pool below and then it was bedtime buzzing about what was to be on practice day.

Up early because the heat in the tent was unbearable, it was going to be another scorcher. A nice wee bacon roll and a bike check and it was time to roll down to the uplift que which was nice and short. First few runs down the track were great fun, lovely and dusty and a little sketchy. As the day rolled on so did the clouds, giving breaks in the sunlight making visibility in the trees pretty good. As ever red flags were popping up from time to time due to the steep and loose top section – which proved to be my maker.
Coming to the end of practice we decided to jump in the end of the que and get on the last few uplifts to give us a well earned 6 runs. short roll from the uplift drop point to the top off the track and it was time to do a fast last run. Rolled down the natural start ramp and picked up some pace coming into the first rocky chute which dropped away in a right hand corner – lost my front wheel and that was it, medics called and stretcher out I found myself in the back of an ambulance again.
About an hour later laying in Perth Royal Infirmary the news came that I had fractured my pelvis and my elbow and was told that if it wasn’t for my armour my elbow would have been in bits.

So the weekend ended with a hospital ceiling being my primary view. gutted.
