They Think It’s All Over…… It Is Now!

Wow that was a quick couple of weeks! It seemed no time at all from the Opening ceremony to the closing ceremony of the Olympic games!

After a slow start the medals flew in making London 2012 one of the most, if not the most successful Olympics for Britain. Scottish athletes won medals and instantly became British, with those who gave their all but walked away empty handed retaining their Scottish status! Don’t you just love the media!

Aside from the disappointing men’s road race, the British cyclists proved a force to be reckoned with on the road and in the velodrome. It was great to see the women doing so well and picking up the medals too! Cycling in the UK has been given a major boost with the success at the Olympics, young kids racing up and down the street emulating their heroes.

Cycle stores are posting sales increases in the wake of Bradley Wiggins Tour de France win and London 2012 Olympic Games. Investment has been made in grass roots level in the years leading up to our home games. The governing bodies MUST continue to invest in grass roots level to ensure that our athletes are given the best chance of bringing home more medals in the 2014 Glasgow Commonwealth Games and future Olympics.

To the men and women who pull the purse strings for grass roots funding, please remember that Great Britain is made up of Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland too!

Well done to the whole of Team GB, every single person played their part in what was a very successful home Olympics.
