Garmin and Strava Partner Up

The long awaited partnership between Garmin and Strava has just been announced with more fitness devices / apps soon to join.

What it means is that you can now upload your Garmin Ride data automatically to Strava. When you upload your ride data to Garmin Connect it will now automatically upload to your connected Strava account. Strava claim it may take several minutes for the ride data to appear. I haven’t had the chance to test this out properly yet but have set it up and will update this blog once I’ve tested it.

I find it strange that after years of people pestering Garmin for this to happen, and Garmin claiming that it has no intention to partner up with Strava, that this announcement was made.

What surprises me more is the fact that Garmin released a Segment function on their latest Edge model, the Garmin Edge 1000. Garmin’s attempt to recreated Strava’s segments failed miserably in my opinion and this maybe the reason for the turnaround. With the Garmin Segments to need to upload them first to the device while with Strava it will highlight any Strava segment you cross.

To connect your Garmin and Strava Account:

  1. Login to your Strava Account
  2. Click the upload button on the top right

    Strava Upload

  3. Click on the Garmin logo

    Garmin Logo

  4. Enter your Garmin Connect details
  5. Everytime you upload a ride to Garmin Connect it will now also upload to Strava

Now go ride your bike and smash those PB’s.
